About Us.

LARRY: For the past 10 years, he has been the fire behind Fakelife Clothing, a clothing brand whose sole intention was to raise money for impoverished orphans. Larry is a big dream, big picture kind of guy. He has a heart for adventure and passionate, unbridled, free-range, creative living. (Quite possibly how we ended up buying TWO VW vans at an auction when we only went to “look.”) His roots are decades deep in the hardcore/punk scene, and he still believes in community, equality, positivity, and giving back.

ALISON: For the past 10 years, she has been the behind-the-scenes sounding board for Fakelife Clothing and the creator of United Rags. She is the thinker, the processor, the wisdom giver and receiver, and the sometimes necessary voice of reason. She believes in purpose and intention. She is a creator of places and spaces for people to be loved. Above all, Alison believes that words and kindness matter.

TOGETHER: We find ourselves at a new place in life. A place where we realize that life is short, most mistakes don’t matter, and children grow up way too fast. We know that the best trips often have no itinerary, and the next VW might be found in an old barn that was scouted on a Sunday morning cruise. We learned that words can hurt or heal. That impulsive decisions are often the best. And we are repeatedly reminded that a soul-deep conversation and a belly laugh with humans you love is the best way to spend an evening.

Volkswagens have been a part of our lives for as long as we can remember. The 1969 Bus we drove cross-country with four people and a dog in the dead of winter with no heat to climb Pike’s Peak in the middle of a snowstorm. The 1967 Beetle we rolled down a hill when one of us forgot to pull the e-brake. The day we impulsively bought two 80’s Vanagons at an auction. The 1957 Ghia pulled from a family barn. The little red right-hand drive Beetle we drove around Alesund, Norway for a few days. And how could we forget the 1972 Bus painted like a bumble bee complete with antennae?

These cars have woven their way through our family story to where we are today. Our family loves fun, freedom, spontaneous road trips, and a story well-told. We love how Volkswagens make people smile and make strangers become friends as they tell their stories of the VW in their lives.

So, as you can tell…. Ramble & Rust isn’t about adhering to a given set of rules or expectations. We are here to see where the road takes us. We are here to share our lives and observations with anyone wanting to follow along.
